Suicide is the act of killing yourself, most often as a result of depression or other mental illness. It is a desperate attempt to escape suffering that has somehow become unbearable. Blinded by feelings of self-loathing, hopelessness, and isolation, a suicidal person can’t see any way of finding relief except through death. If you or someone you know is experiencing thoughts of suicide, please call 911 and/or contact the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1800-273-8255.
